Mother Nature reminds us its winter!
Talk about temperature extremes. Yesterday was in the 40’s, and today we get a high of 8*F. BRRRRRR. At least it will help get some ice on the lakes so I can do some ice fishing. Shouldnt be too much longer now.
I know its been a long time, I wanted to update a few times but just kept putting it off. Im so bad about updating sometimes. Today I have some good stuff though. For one I upgraded the backend of the website software. It had been a long time and now everything works again…including the subscription feature! I sent out a test message to verify it was working again. The email logs say it is…woot! Sorry it didnt work for some people last time, but now it will.
So for some content. I just picked up a fire resistant gun safe using live.com’s 20% off ebay cashback. I got in on the last day of the 20%…glad I didnt put that off any longer. So I ended up saving the maximum of $200 on my safe. Its a really great safe for the money. Normal price is $1000 shipped. It has a lot of great features that are normally only on more expensive safes. The only downside to it is that the locking mechanism isnt on a cam so if someone could get to the door bolts they could pound on them till it broke the lock from the inside. To foil that you just need to make sure its next to a wall, etc so they cant get to the side where the bolts are. I also made sure it would be large enough to hold everything I ever wanted. Its technically a 30 gun safe. I am using 1 side for guns, the other side for other odds and ends like ammo, mags, and important documents.
So why the spark suddenly for a really nice safe? Well the cabinet I was using had a glass front. All it did was keep the honest people honest. It didnt protect from anything really. Mandi said that before we had kids I had to upgrade to something better (for good reasons…and that doesnt mean children anytime soon…just thinking about the future). The main reason now for the upgrade though is 2 fold. First is that the live.com cashback essentially gave me $200 towards my safe. Second is that I have picked up a few AR-15’s in light of the recent election results.
Im putting them together myself and choosing the parts I want. Its a little more expensive than just buying one, but in the long run I will end up with a much higher quality weapon for way cheaper than doing it the other way. So far I only have 1 out of the 2 built as I cant source enough parts for the second one. For those interested in my build, I have Rock River lowers, Daniel Defence upper receivers, and Magpul CTR stocks in common on both. For the finished one it is topped off with a Daniel Defense 10.0 lite rail, Yankee Hill 16″ barrel, Young chrome bolt carrier group, and a S.P.O.T. Mark III red dot sight. It ended up being a pretty sweet build…I just need to feed a few rounds through it now.
I am making some good progress on the bar. The bar itself is finished, and I am working on the cabinets behind it. A couple of good days of work and I should be finished with that part. Before I can do the top of the cabinets though I need to figure out what I am doing for a ceiling so I know how tall they can be. Still debating between sheetrock and drop. It had a drop before but I hate that look. But being the basement, I understand why its there (to access pipes, wiring etc in the ceiling). I just need to make up my mind and go with it though. The bar side will probably be drywall though, who knows on the other side.
So concludes todays update. To leave I will post a video of a UFC fight from the 11th. The short clip in question is definately not recommended for young viewers or the squimish
The dude breaks his leg during a kick. After the video is a pic of his broken leg. Pretty brutal.
