Its a heat wave!
Well, somehow we managed to survive the -22* (without windchill) weather. It was a brisk couple of days. Thankfully we now have a heat wave and a high of 31* tomorrow! Luckily I had put in our fireplace insert a couple of weeks ago before the real cold weather came. Now we can sit in the basement with some nice 70* heat (compared to the 63* we keep the house at normally). The only thing I need to get done now is I purchased a duct fan so that I can draw the warm air from the basement and push it upstairs. Im not trying to heat the whole house, just lessen the amount of time the furnace is on. Even without it and the warm air going up the stairs helped a ton on those really cold days.
Progress is being made on the bar. Ive almost gotten to the bad part. That is the polyeurathaning of it. Why is it bad? Cause it smells and is really time consuming. I have 3 pieces of wood to cut, then a small section to stain still, then the back cabinets will be ready to go. I still need to make shelves, but I figured that can happen later at some point. Im really interested in getting some other stuff done first. For example get the drywall up on the ceiling and lights installed. Then I can start moving on the walls again. Im looking really forward to getting the basement done. Especially now that we have been spending a lot of time down there with the nice wood heat.
I lucked into a case of one of my favorite brews on Sunday. I stopped at Woodmans to see how much they get for Jameson and I just walked by the New Glarus beers to see what the new seasonal was and almost died! About 3 or 4 months ago I submitted a beer for them to make. They hadnt made it in probably 2 years and I have had a real bad jonesing for it lately. What luck when I saw it at woodmans! Its their Coffee Stout. Its so creamy and delicous…a great treat. I had to pick up a case so that I can hold onto it for a bit since I know they wont be making any more of it for awhile.
Ive been running the beta of the new Windows (called Windows 7…catchy isnt it…lol). Its a lot better than Vista. Now I dont have a ton of problems with Vista for home use, its just in the Enterprise that it sucks. So far with Windows 7 though, I have no complaints. Ive been running it on a virtual machine and its a vast improvement. Really its what Vista should have been. The UI is pretty similar to Vista, so if you were hoping for a new look I have some bad news. Like Office 2007, you just have to start using it and get used to it. UAC doesnt prompt for permission nearly as much now, and it is much more responsive. I cant wait for a Release Candidate version. In fact, when the RC comes out, I will probably install it on my main work PC to hash it out.
Speaking of work and Microsoft, I just learned an extremely disappointing fact, App-V currently does not support 64bit windows. WTF! Its 2008 (when the new version was released). 64bit windows is becoming the norm and MS doesnt have anything available. The even worse news is that 64bit support isnt pending until 2010! Another year from now. Weak. Microsoft, get on the ball. That completely blew my plans for App-V integration into SCCM. I was pretty disappointed by that.
